Small & Intimate Weddings in Norwich, Connecticut

A simple ceremony. A meaningful commitment. A welcoming place.

Your wedding doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive to be beautiful and meaningful.

At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Norwich (UUCN), we welcome couples looking for a warm, affordable place to celebrate their commitment to one another.

Whether you’re planning a quiet ceremony with just a few loved ones, a small gathering of family and friends, or a simple civil wedding, our downtown Norwich location offers a welcoming setting for your special day.

You don’t have to be a member of our congregation, belong to a particular faith tradition, or have any religious affiliation to be married here.

All loving couples are welcome, including LGBTQIA+ couples, interfaith couples, and couples who prefer a nonreligious ceremony.

A Wedding That Fits Your Life

Not everyone dreams of a large wedding, a reception hall, or months of complicated planning.

Perhaps you’re a military couple preparing for a new chapter together. Maybe you’re getting married later in life, beginning a second marriage, working with a modest budget, or simply prefer a smaller, more personal celebration.

Whatever brings you to this moment, your commitment deserves to be honored.

Our intimate space is especially suited for simple, heartfelt ceremonies with a small gathering of people who matter most to you.

Our maximum capacity is 50 people total, including the couple, guests, officiant, and anyone assisting with the ceremony. This makes our space best suited for small weddings rather than large celebrations.

Simple, Affordable Wedding Fees

We believe a meaningful wedding ceremony should be accessible without requiring a large wedding budget.

Simple Classic Wedding Ceremony — $150

This includes a brief, classic wedding ceremony officiated by Rev. Dianne M. Daniels, ordained Unitarian Universalist minister and Connecticut Justice of the Peace, at our downtown Norwich location.

Your fee includes:

  • $100 for the officiant and simple wedding ceremony
  • $50 for use of the UUCN gathering space

Military Wedding Rate — $125

We are pleased to offer a special rate for active-duty military members and veterans. This includes a 25% discount on the officiant fee, with the congregation’s $50 space-use fee remaining unchanged.

These rates apply to brief ceremonies with standard vows, minimal customization, and no rehearsal. More personalized ceremonies or additional services may be quoted separately.

All ceremonies are subject to advance scheduling and space availability.

Couples looking for a more personalized ceremony, handfasting, rehearsal, or additional services are welcome to discuss those possibilities with Rev. Dianne. Additional fees may apply.

Meet Your Wedding Officiant

I love weddings.

Before becoming an ordained minister, I enjoyed helping people celebrate important moments in their lives. Becoming a Justice of the Peace was one of the first steps I took in living into my values.

As an ordained Unitarian Universalist (UU) minister, I believe there are many ways to create a meaningful life and many ways to express love, commitment, and spiritual depth. My UU faith has a long history of affirming LGBTQIA+ people and advocating for marriage equality.

You do not need to be Unitarian Universalist — or religious at all — for me to honor who you are, whom you love, and the traditions and values you bring to your ceremony.

One of my earliest ceremonies was a Wiccan handfasting. I’ve also performed simple civil ceremonies, personalized weddings, and ceremonies incorporating family members and meaningful traditions.

Each couple is different, and that’s part of what makes this work such a joy. When two people come to me ready to make a loving commitment to one another, it is my privilege to help them do it.

Rev. Dianne M. Daniels is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, Connecticut Justice of the Peace, and Consulting Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Norwich, and she enjoys helping couples celebrate their love and commitment in ways that reflect who they are.

Her wedding ministry is grounded in the Unitarian Universalist values of Love, Equity, Pluralism, and the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Whether your ceremony is spiritual, secular, or somewhere in between, you will be welcomed with warmth and respect.
