We gather together in spiritual community to find meaning and live more deeply. because we need constant reminders of what matters most in life. Worship creates connections within, among, and beyond us, calling us to our better selves and encouraging us to live with wisdom and compassion, and to live authentically into our values.

In a world of heartbreak and dehumanization, our congregations and communities call us to our better selves. We learn to live with more wisdom, more connection, and more compassion.

Unitarian Universalist worship styles vary by congregation, and sometimes within congregations. UUCN employs a combination of contemporary and traditional worship, and we bring in diverse musical influences and voices when possible. We include poetry and other writing styles in readings, silent reflection, prayers, and quotes from famous and less-well-known speakers. Our congregation’s worship services are thoughtful and heartfelt, inclusive, and welcoming.

Our Worship Services are weekly reflections that weave together our own thoughts and experiences with music, beauty, poetry, and words that both comfort and challenge.

Elements of UUCN’s Sunday morning worship service include:

  • Words of welcome
  • Lighting a flaming chalice, the symbol of our faith
  • Music, both instrumental and vocal and in a variety of styles
  • A time for lifting up the joys and concerns of the congregation
  • A meditation or prayer
  • Readings—ancient or contemporary
  • A sermon given by our minister, Rev. Dianne M. Daniels, a guest speaker (ministers and non-ministers, or a member of the congregation (Lay-led services)
  • An offering, which collects financial donations to support the congregation, our community and justice work, and to help support compatible organizations in the community.

We are inspired not just by religious sources but by the people with whom we journey: the diverse and spirited Unitarian Universalists. From time to time, worship may incorporate holiday celebrations, longer musical performances, the welcoming of new members, and other occasions in the life of the congregation.
